We are specifically encouraging male presenting performers, and people of colour to audition. In addition to expanding our current team we are looking to fill certain roles within the fairy-tale multiverse with the following ethnicities: Black, Middle-Eastern, Colombian, Chinese, Polynesian, Latina, Indigenous, Brazilian.
Storybook Events strongly believes in Transcendent Casting, so while you may be expected to often play the character of your descent, being a person of colour you can also expect to play traditionally caucasian characters in certain scenarios, to encourage representation! You can read more on transcendent casting here: :https://www.storybookevents.ca/transcendent-casting
How It Works
Our Princesses, Heroes, and Mascots, play a variety of different characters. As an independent contractor, performers will run provided activities at Birthday’s, Parties, Corporate Events, Concerts/Shows, and more. Performers will attend a training session, where they will learn the ins-and-outs of event performing, so no experience is necessary. No performers will attend events alone, they will always have a “Character Attendant” present to help execute the party schedule, and ensure performer and client safety.
We proudly provide appropriate monetary compensation to our artists, and as such, rates will always equal more than minimum wage. Per-Party rates are negotiated based on applicant experience. We assign performance opportunities through a rotational basis to ensure fairness, the number of parties assigned in a month varies based on bookings, with summer and the holidays being our busiest seasons.
Performer Requirements & Audition Details
Our ideal performers will meet the following criteria:
Age Minimum: 18
Suggested Measurements (so we know you can fit into the existing costumes): Men Size M-XL. Women Approx. Size 4-10.

Hero Creed:
As a Hero I promise you
That I will be brave and true,

One day I’d be a hero too!

Full training will be provided. Character attendants may also apply to be performers or other positions with Storybook.
Duties include:
Coordinating costume pick-up/drop-off.

We’re always interested in learning more about what might be popular in the children's entertainment circuit. Wether it be caricature artists, bubble performing, or anything in-between, we'd love to know what you believe you can offer the Storybook Events brand.
As an independent contractor you’ll already have your own supplies and/or your own act. With Storybook Events we work together to set a reasonable pay rate for your offerings, after which we attach our service fees for the final website listing. The client pays travel for anything 20KM outside of Kitchener-Waterloo, but otherwise your travel is included in your rate.
